About Me

Welcome to my private home page, which gives an informal introduction to me, my scientific and scholarly activities, and some of other interests.

Born and studied in Gdańsk, grew up in Gdynia, Cracovia and Dębowiec in Poland, I received 1978 M.A. in History and 1982 Dr. Ph. in Humanities. Later I moved to Switzerland and Italy, where I was an postgraduate student at Fribourg, Geneve and Rome and completed my work about the early Roman economy and the origins of monetary system in Italy among others under the supervision of Denis van Berchem and Oliver de Reverdin. There I spend wonderful years and found some close friends; I remember so friendly people and wonderful nature as nowhere else beyond in the south of Poland. Since 1990 I live in Germany within of the center of Bochum in North-Rhine Westphaly. It is an unusual city, sort of the european city in the heart of North-Rhine Westphaly. For some it is a regional metropolis, for others a small village between Dortmund and Essen. For me it is simply my mostly quiet hometown nowadays.

I has published some books and many articles and reviews on Roman and early christian history, in particular the socio-economical and mental history of the classical world and on mediology, most of all on digital libraries and archives, and at last on general history, numismatics, epigraphics and genealogy.

Furthermore I also try to make space for some work on the interface between Classics, Bible Disciplines and Patristics and otherwise Computing and New Media, solving conceptual problems in the areas of computer modelling database development and use of Internet. The Internet is extremely rich with Classics, Jewish and Christian resources and my project Pomoerium shows clearly the gates to these uncommon resources, so difficult mostly to select and use.

Administration of Computer Networks and Programming can be for me beyond music and painture an exciting and creative skill, liberating from the limitations of our hasty life and providing a wonderful aid for joggle with all sorts and kinds of crazy ideas. Regionals studies and genealogy play in my hobbies an insignificant part and Dębowiec was and still is the the most important place in my life.

Music is beside painting one of my greatest loves, from early momonody and poliphonic music to jazz and Michel Sardou, though Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Waclaw from Szamotuly, Bach, Chopin, Grieg and Mahler belong to greatest favourites. Sadly I never had the talent to play the violin or more musical ability to sing beyond the student chor, but remains love of music and fine arts.

The project Pomoerium will focus on the achievements of classics-related sciences, and examine socio-economic and religious transformations, not as a stream of disjointed events, but as an intelligible and determinate process, whether involving a shorter or a longer time span.
It constitutes the efforts to render accessible to the interested public hardly-known ideas, journals and books and aims to contribute to the exploration and understanding of religious and socio-economic processes in the classical antiquity and provide an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of their various aspects.
Finally it serves furthermore as a naturally forum for the presentation and discussion of noteworthy issues, including the presentation of minority or at times controversial points of view.
Journal: Deadline for completed texts is September 30, 2007, however submissions are encouraged at all times and will be considered for the next upcoming issues.
